Programmer is not responding error (Uploading)

Hello,
I have an Arduino Uno and I am using a MacBook Pro (Silicon) to connect and run the IDE. The power works, as I can do simple circuitry. But, whenever I write code, it does not work on my Mac. I tried the same code and board on a Microsoft computer, and it worked just fine. Any tips on how to fix?

Here's the error:...

For what it's worth, I had problems uploading to an Arduino clone from my Intel machine. I thought it was the non-standard UART IC but after some wiggling, found it was the USB connector (at the Arduino copy board end ).
For your case, I don't know anything about Macs (hate the sight of them) so check your driver for USB to Serial conversion ?
