That is not the entire error message.

Solved - Had to set Tool >> Port correctly and thats all

I have the same error but my Port is set correctly.

My problems began when I wanted to use avrdude as an external programmer in Atmel Studio. We had an assignment in school to do some assembly and I wanted to continue when I got home. Unfortunately I don't have a physical programmer, instead I tried to solve it with avrdude as an external programmer.

I have tried using several different Arduino's, cables and USB ports with no change. I've tried my own Arduino in another computer and it works fine.

Now. I have uninstalled Arduino IDE, Atmel Studio, removed all extra folders with avrdude that I managed to spread across my computer in the hunt for success. I've run a recovery point from januari to make sure I rolled back pre problem. With a fresh installation I got the same error message at once:

Sketch uses 928 bytes (2%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32256 bytes.
Global variables use 9 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 2039 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2048 bytes.

/*****EDIT 2
*I have done the Loop back test and it works out fine, everything is Echoed back to me. I have also updated the VCP drivers found here: VCP Drivers - FTDI

/*****EDIT 3
*I realize that my last edit made it look like it solved the problem, it did not in any way. Would gladly accept any help. My next idea is to reformat the computer and / or buy a new Arduino Uno + cable.

No Dont
I changed the usb port and then it solved my problem

If still this doesn't help, get a DC adapter. It took me out of all worries of power requirement.
