I am all for trying out the uncategorised category on the current forum and am happy to accept the risk of extra work while it's an experiment. I don't think there will be extra work because any questions that land there will be the ones that currently land in Tutorials and in Installation and Troubleshooting.

There is indeed limited risk at testing that live. Users who understand how to pick the right category will continue to do so and only those who don't and pick the first one they see will do. It is indeed likely that we were moving those posts around in the past already anyway - so not really extra workload and we might learn something along the way
So happy to see that being tested as well. What will be the category name? I suggest "Don't post here" 
I am happy to see what the results of adding an "Uncategorised" category is providing that statistics on how many posts are posted to it or moved from it (and the destination) are available, otherwise the exercise is a waste of time
indeed - so those who would be moving posts away should report that somewhere or is there some way to get those stats?
majority of today's posts in "Programming Questions" and "Project Guidance" seem interchangeable to me. I would combine them and put it as some kind of general question at the end of the category "Using Arduino" - or any better name than today's Using Arduino.
I don't like the idea of a "Uncategorized" - it will end up as a waste bin.
And as the international section was touched again - just don't change anything in the German category - it's ok to have ONE German category.
Because it should not be called Uncategorized as those who understand what they do and are lost into the myriad of categories could end up posting there. The idea would be to really call this «don’t post here» or «moderator space only» or something like that and anything appearing there would likely be from rookies not having made a choice and posting « by default »
If someone posted in a category named "Don't post here" then I would be inclined to delete it and ban them for a period of time
Yeah but mods would have to be magnanimous for a while with the honeypot otherwise you would ban every rookie posting in the wrong category
The idea was that we move the post and use the opportunity to tell the OP to learn how to use the forum or his next post will be deleted or something
The question is why do they post there ? Active choice of going into that category to make their post or genuine mistake because of the UI/UX ?

The situation is not going to improve just because we move posts and posting in a category with such an explicit title deserves all it gets.

I went with my original "Uncategorized" category name, but I am open to suggestions for a name that more clearly communicates the nature of the category.
I have the feeling that a name like "Don’t Post Here" is not great for the forum aesthetics for those who see it while browsing the forum (as opposed to creating a topic).
As for "Moderator Space Only", it doesn't seem to very clearly communicate the purpose.

Do we know that the use/abuse of the new category can be analysed ?
Look in the reports section of the admin section, there is a report for new posts, which can be filtered by section. What I do not know is whether this reports on where the topic was first put or rather on where it happens to be when the report is run. Perhaps @pert knows.
I think we will get a pretty good idea of whether it's working just from new topics we have to move.
What is your definition of "working" ?
