Purchase advising with a bargain laptop and newer ide version

Hello,

I would like to purchase a laptop, only dedicated for work under arduino and 4d System.

4D System IDE, will not put me problem.

But for Arduino IDE....

My projects will not requires lot of lines, but since the time I left Arduino IDE v1.6 under Seven to this actual version v2.3.4, under win 11, it required me ,honestly, a certain laps of adaptation.

And I don't say that version is worst...

I found a computer brand DELL Latitude 5350 from 2016, at a pretty good price, hardwarely typicaly sufficient for my use.

But, like described 3 lines upper, it is a machine from 2016, with a base of win 10, upgraded to win 11.

Normaly it will work on this laptop.
But could it be judicious to buy this laptop or very limit,
in software side ?

To explain my vision, I have a desk computer under win11 during my week, and I would like to continue my sketches work during my week end with a laptop.
My hardware are limited only to Pro mini and UNO.

For any possible advising helps

Thanks a lot

You can still install and use Arduino IDE 1.8.19. I refuse to use IDE 2.x

Can't vouch for this list's accuracy, but the xx50 model laptop in that timeframe is perhaps the E5550 or E3550, which is 5th generation; that could be adequate. How much RAM? I'd guess 8GB would be OK; 4GB is tight. Does it have an old spinning hard drive, or an SSD?

You would likely get better performance with the same hardware by running Linux instead of Windows 11.

Hello,

Thanks for theses quick replies !

It is your proper opinion...
But could be a solution, using a previous version on notebook and regular one on my desk one.

It is equipped with 8 Go, and it is a SSD hardrive.

Even I know lot of people are familiar with Linux, and even Linux upgraded a lot, I am not for the shot, familiar with this OS.

I use Raspbian, with a specific software, and all actions in the OS are realy not easy.
This is personnaly my opinion ...

To jump in the same subject, I could have used since lot of year, a Mac for notebook et desk one, and abort abolutely Windows, but I have a absolutely a big blockage with Mac keyboards....

Yes, sometime, I would like to catch Bill Gate, and say to him, fu... as... ! why to much hatred !
But I admit without any shame, be very more familiar with Windows...

I have to search a little bit more, apparently this model is current bargained with lot of differents prices, and try more check and founding a bargain newer version.

I used to run IDE 2.3.x (can't remember the exact version) on an old Win10 desktop with a second gen I3, 8GB and a normal HD. The SSD will make a world of difference.

This is basically Linux. Check this link for more information: linux - What is Raspbian? - Raspberry Pi Stack Exchange

I use Linux. I first switched when my PC would not run the windows upgrade. I have found Linux is faster on my hardware. I now have all of my machines using solid state drives.

Hello,

In first, took my apologies for the very late reply time, from myself.

I know Raspbian is an OS on Linux, newly call Rasperry Pi OS.

Thing, which have I not precised, I start use this OS with a software using Linux, called "Rexygen".

It is a software, which offer possibility to control a Rasperry Pi card (and other card) alone, via an web page, with a large posssibility of control, and designing visualisations with Inkskape.

I am only on discover status, but in the same time I discover (very little bit) the using of Raspbian.
But I am not again arrived to newbie status of Linux.
I am very braked by the necessary control comands for everyting.

At the reading of Raspberry Pi site, they furnish a large number of help page and informations, like Arduino.

This is shame to drive in front of, all the more apparently somes schools start to learn it to childrens.

I know Linux offer advanced unlocks possibilities, but it require learn it !

Finally,

To come back at the discussion, because I have tendency to flow on an other subject, even it is very interesting.

I took 4 days, has searching, and discovering lot of lying annoucements found on the bargain site.
Particularly with the help of the Wikilist of Dell notebook.
I never know all the versions of this familly build all over the years.
Thinked only few versions was build.

I finally bought another notebook computer, higher expensive, but not too much, with the same brand but combinating most of one requirements of my choice.

A Latitude 3520, from 2021, which is largely suffisant for me.

Even the first one coulde be a perfect one, but with a proposed age of 9 year, I thinked that it could interesting to searching a little bit more.

All the more, I would like to install other little softwares requiring recent version of windows.

Thanks in advance for your helps in my final choice
