I'm looking for a IC, preferably in DIP package, on which I can connect encoder with ability to spin fast (to be precise, salvaged HDD motor connected like this). Any recommendations? I came across HCTL-2022 but it seems to require many pins.
I like LS7184N. Get a nice clean clock pulse and a level to indicate direction that shaft has been turned.
Have to work their Distributor list to see who has stock.
Parts have been ~$3.50 each in the past.

Thaks, but I'm looking for something I can order more easily (I'm in Croatia).
Why do you want to use a chip an Arduino is good for more than 100,000 pulses per second with lots left over for other things.

I am trying to interface CUI-made AMT103-V rotary encoder to Arduino and considering using LS7184N. Can You please guide me to draw some schematics or where can I find application drawings of LS7184 IC?
The encoder is set at 2048 PPR, therefore at 4* encoding rate (e.g. using CHANGE attribute watching in code) I get 8192 pulses per rotation and I dont want to miss any of them. Target is to display angles in 1/10 degrees resolution (0-360 degrees, CW).
I am considering Avago HCTL-2022 or LS7184N - 2 different options, but no application examples for any of them.
I am not an advanced Electronics Designer.
any advice is welcome, thank You.
