Read GENIBUS data from pumps

Hello friends,

Since month, the idea if it is possible is haunting me.

What i am thinking of: For my job i am using dosing pumps. To be more specfic GRUNDOS dosing pumps. To "talk" to the pump (via intern network for example) GRUNDFOS offers tools, like CIM/CIU to communicate with the pump. The basic protocol that is used is GENIBUS. That tool CIM/CIU does nothing more than translate GENIBUS to an open protcol, like MODBUS for example. From that point it is easy to proceed further.

I am now asking myself if it is somehow possible to "crack" it. I found here in this forum, that some guy kinda managed it (or i think he did): RS485 Communication with Grundfos Genibus

Until now, i dont have much of experience with protocols, if it is possible to read them out?
The question is more of a nature: can it be done, without beeing the god of cracking and coding.

I am curiouse to read some thoughts

The best way is to get hold of documentation, manuals etc. For an ignorant newbie
... It will not be a success.

thank you for your answer.

but why am i ignorant? it was just a question..

If You would have knowledge about protocols and communication You wouldn't post that question. Even eperieced people wouldn't bet on cracking a protocol/communication. Often advanced and expensive logic analyzers are needed.
If such is available for free, maybe take a look but fully cracking a protocol.... No. It's not realistic.

Thank you for your assessment.

The link i posted above gave me a bit hope, that it might be doable.

best regards
