I am trying to operate a 2 channel relay module (2-Channel Relay Module For Arduino) using a separate 5V supply but it doesn't seem to work. The connections that I am using are the JD VCC and GND.

You have posted quite a few different problems with different projects. You should know by now to include the model of the relay module, a schematic of how you have it connected together and the program code you are using.
Have you got any of the prior projects to work as expected?
Paul
Thanks for your reply. It is not a code issue. The arduino is sending a code which is received by the LED on the relay. The separate 5V supply seems to be the problem which is connected to the JD VCC and the GND.
Ok, if it's not the code, does the LED on the relay board stay lit as long as the Arduino is sending the"code"? Is the LED on long enough time for the relay to actuate?
Paul
Yes it is thank you - I believe the problem is with the 5V adapter

I guess the problem lies in the understanding of the circuit diagram.
- Did you ever read something about the jumper on board and when you should use and how?
- Do you know if you need a HIGH or LOW to activate the relay(s)?
Read and follow these information and you will be fine:
