Resistors

I'm thinking about buying some bulk resistors (100 each about) for Arduino projects, but I'm having a hard time deciding what amount.

I'm thinking 330 Ohm resistors for LEDs, and maybe 1-10k resistors for pull-ups, etc.? What is you're input?

Assume that I'm getting 100 total please.

every few months I get that assortment pack at radio shack, its quite useful in terms of what values it has

If nothing else its a good list to go from

This one? Awesome deal in my opinion! They are only 1/8 Watt, but that shouldn't matter when using them with Arduinos, right? I mean 20mA max on a pin * 5 volts is only 1/10 watt. That's assuming you don't use them on external power supplies too though :).

Anyone know the max current draw from the 5V pin on the Arduino board by any chance? :stuck_out_tongue:

[edit]But this looks like a better deal, considering he combines shipping and it's only 1.35 per 100 resistors (any specific value in increments of 100). What do you think of 100 330R, 100 1kR, and 100 of another value (whichever you guys think is the most useful)?[/edit]

the 5v pin should be connected directly to the regulator (at least on my bare bones board it is) so whatever the regulator can safely handle ...

and the ones they sell in the store are 1/4 or 1/2 watt ones (i usually get the half watt ones)

Yea its not a great deal compared to anywhere else but its a point of reference, and no you wont used some of the odd sized ones a bunch, but its nice to have a selection

that ebay link you posted seems just fine for most digital stuff

Cool, but which values do you think I should get? 100 330R, 100 1kR, and what else? 10k?

4.7k is good for pull up/down's

Gotcha. So 330R, 1kR, and 4k7R. Does that pretty much cover most digital uses?

[edit]I also am getting 5 of most values from this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Assorted-Kit-of-1-4-Watt-Metal-Film-Resistors-100pcs_W0QQitemZ260451779422QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3ca422c35e[/edit]

I would add 10K and 100K. The 4.7K is good for I2C pullups but for most other
pullups and pulldowns I would use a higher value.

If possible I would get 1% resistors. You won't need 1% for pullups or LEDs but if
you do a sensor or op-amp 1% could be useful. They don't cost much more than
5% values anymore.
