Running Nema 8 Stepper Motor with L298N Motor Controller

Hello, I am trying to get the Nema 8 (Link) with the L298N Motor Controller (Link). I am supplying 5V to it through a separate source, and am running code using the Arduino Uno. I've tried the example programs given by the stepper library, as well as multiple programs online, and none of them have worked.

Should I try a different motor controller, or is there something else wrong with my setup? Thank you.

That's very good, using a separate power supply for the driver. However using some 7 volt would be better. At least 2 volt will be lost in the driver transistors.

Posting the last code tried would be good.

Looks like posting schematics would help us.
