SIM module: Need help integrating mic & speaker

Hi all,

i have a small phone project going on and have now come to a point to integrate a mic and speakers for making voice calls.
I am using the Waveshare SIM7670E Module, which has an integrated audio jack.
With this it is basically Plug&Play and when i use my earbuds, i can make phonecalls without an issue (mic and speaker working, without needing to write a single line of extra code).
My goal is to integrate it into an own design though, so i cannot use these breakout boards.
I want to use a small elektret microphone as well as a small speaker, like what you would expect in a phone.
I understand that i need an audio codec like the NAU8810 on this board, but i have zero experience when it comes to actually use a codec like this (or any audio hardware for that matter).
Did somebody here set up a similar system like this and has helpful information or recommendations for me (actual components and/or comprehensible tutorials)?
I am informing myself as best as i can, but i feel like there is still a long way to go.

Thanks for any information!
