SIM800L troubleshooting

Good afternoon. This is my first post on this forum. I hope it will prove efficient. Here is my problem that i could use some help on:

GSM SIM800L module, I want to connect it to either Arduino or ESP32 - i am working on both at the same time - arduino is for testing purposes.

End purpose is to send a message to my phone using the GSM SIM800L module.
I have tried quite a lot of wiring, most of the stuff on youtube i have watched.

I have made sure i have the right voltage ( using a variable power supply), I have made sure the SIM card is working - tested on my phone, the GSM SIM800L module is brand new + i have tried with Version 1 and 2 of the SIM800L.

I was told the code itself might be an issue, i have not explored that yet, i was under the impression that a SIM card connects automatically to a network when the module is powered on,

All ideas are welcome

Not very likely, without reading the forum guidelines. If you did, you need to go back and review.

Can you pass me a link please i do not know my way around this one yet

Post your code and a picture (hand drawn is fine) of how everything is connected... then you should get some better help.

I would say that for a starter you read this article:

Please do not just blindly follow youtube tutorial, as the majority of them are incorrect.

Is your arduino a 5 volt one? If so do you have the appropriate voltage divider from the arduino TX to the modules RX?

as @red_car mentioned, a circuit diagram would be nice.
