Soft Potentiometer Faux Buttons

Hello!
I don't know where to put this thread. Maybe a moderator can move it to the appropriate board if necessary.
Look at Figure 1 from http://arduino720.wikispaces.com/Potentiometers. It is near the bottom. I have a soft pot from Sparkfun. I marked it in 7 places. There are 8 faux buttons on the soft pot. Since the soft pot makes the pin float if you are not touching it, an accompanying button is necessary. Isn't it a good way for the user to enter numbers (other than a keypad)? Any feedback?
Thanks!

Hi

That sure does look interesting. The additional switch makes it awkward for using it for numeric entry though. Could you eliminate the switch by using a pulldown resistor on the line to A0 to stop it floating when the pot wasn't being pressed?

Geoff

That would render the bottom-most faux button useless, but it will still work. I tried it with a 10k pull-down resistor. I don't mind gripping the soft pot, then pressing a button.
