(the solution was that the ports id pin isn't used by the board so there isn't a need to ground it or treat it in any way when replacing the micro usb port (5pin) with a 4 pin port)
lets say that you hate micro usb more then most things in life, is it possible to solder the id pin to ground and use a usb b port instead or will it ruin some functions by making the arduino a permanent slave or host (i have no problem doing it, not willing to bother if you guys have tried and failed. any stories welcome).
this is like not wanting a toyota because of how shitty it is and fixing it by changing the emblem, i want to remove the port completely because of the brittle nature of it
im referring to my history with the port, i've never had any port fail my as often as micro usb so i am going to desolder it off the board and solder a usb b instead i've found out that the id pin goes to absolutely nothing so problem solved ( this topic was just to confirm if it would have any side effects to just ground the id pin on the board but in this case there isn't anything to ground since the pin on the port just exist on it to connect to nothing on the board (in this case it serves no function))
