Sound activated el-wire trigger

I know el-wire inverters often come with sound activation circuits but I have two issues with those that I would love help deciding if an arduino could do a better job:

  1. The circuit on the default inverters has a square wave trigger but I would like the brightness to adjust with volume. I know this is complex due to the AC current but thought maybe a frequency modulator circuit could di it in combo with a sound sensor.

  2. I would love if the trigger and the light power supply could be separate. I am going to be working with varying lengths of el-wire which require different voltages. I know that changing the input voltage on the default inverters causes the sound detection to malfunction. I think if possible I would like my sound trigger to be unchanged by the voltage it is modulating.

Thanks!
