Space Rover Work Placement Project

Hello,
I am currently doing 4th year mechanical engineering degree work placement. My company would like to build a space rover system for students to build in class with the chassis potentially being created with Lego. They want the rover to be controlled through an iPhone application. To be powered by rechargeable battery packs and to have varying levels of difficulty to put together (soldering connections).

Can you please provide me with some information regarding whether/what products can be used to create a moving rover that is controlled through an iPhone application? Which products can be used for simple installation in class and more advanced installation with soldering?

What tutorials are available to program the board to be used on an iPhone and control the motors for the drive-train and steering.

Is using an Ardiuno board a viable option to be used in conjunction with Lego?

Any other suggestions for the project would really be really appreciated.

Thank you

Your Post reads like you are addressing yourself to the manufacturers of the Arduino products. That is not who we are. We are just people who voluntarily try to help others make use of Arduino products.

If you search through the Forum you will find plenty of Threads involving robots and motor control and involving communication between phones and Arduinos. I am not personally familiar with iPhones (can't afford one) but AFAIK they can communicate using Bluetooth or WiFi much like an Android phone.
