It looks like there is a good chance that SpaceX will do a second try of a Starship launch NET Thursday 17th 2023. Should be terrifying.
Why terrifying?
Yes why terrifying ?
I watched the launch of the satellite I worked on live, terrified I was not.
Well they have sent the personnel in with the explosives to fit to the craft for emergency aborts, so looks like they are serious.
Tom...
In my calendar Thursday is the 16th this month....
Yes, sorry, you're right.
- The first try, it blew rocks and debris into the next town 6 miles away. They think they've solved that problem but won't know for sure until they try again.
- 33 rocket engines running all at once has to be loud and will shake the ground for miles around.
- If it explodes near the ground, it won't be CGI.
Did the booster have 33 engines?
Fixed it for you
Well I'll be watching from about three miles away. I'll report on the experience.
I wish I could be with you!
There will be good video coverage but it definitely won't be like being there. NasaSpaceFlight.com usually has the best coverage.
Upwind, we hope!
"On February 9, 2023, a static fire with 31 engines at 50% throttle (33 was attempted but one engine was disabled pre-firing, and another engine aborted)."
Tom...
Hopefully at this launch, all 33 will perform successfully.
My point above was that there is probably a huge difference between watching a launch with 33 engines rather than 4.
What is the goal of starship?
Go to space or dig a deep hole?
To beat NASA to the moon IIRC.
What is the goal of starship?
- Get men/women to the moon.
- Make lots of money.
- Lift huge loads to the ISS.
- Make lots of money.
- Take loads to the moon.
- Make lots of money.
- Get to Mars
- Make lot of money
- Repeat steps 1. to 6. but this time with Mars.
Tom...
50% of max power...
...I see an opportunity to blow an even bigger hole! That would allow us to see whether our earth plate is really carried by 4 elephants on a turtle...
...can't wait!
