HI! I'm building a Bluetooth car for college and I have a problem. This car is using an Arduino UNO with an L293D shield, handling 4 DC motors at a time. However, all 3 motors are working ok and nothing happens. But when this 4th motor is connected the L293D ic gets really hot in a matter of 1-3 seconds of usage.
Does anyone know if the motor is broken? Can this be fixed without buying another one?
You can easily test the motor by directly connecting it to the motor power supply. What current is being drawn by each motor? The L293D is specked at "The L293D is designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V.". That is EACH motor current.
Fine, thanks.
That motor should not make the driver upset.
Remark 1) Isn't that too much? 4 x 3.7 volt = 14.8 volt.
That gives each motor 11 - 12 volt. The current will be way too high then.
2 cells in serie ought to do something.
Remark 2). Disconnect all motors and connect that fourth one giving trouble, and watch the temperature of the driver. Is the motor turning or is it stuck, out of order?
Can you please post a copy of your circuit, in CAD or a picture of a hand drawn circuit in jpg, png?
Hand drawn and photographed is perfectly acceptable.
Please include ALL hardware, component names and pin labels.
Can you please post images of your project so we can see your hardware layout?
