SSD 1306 SPI OLED not working on Pro Micro

Hi. I'm trying to get a spi oled display working with the pro micro. I've checked connections multiple times, tried tweaking the code, looked up solutions everywhere but no luck. I've had this display working in the past using spi but it stopped working out of nowhere... I thought it was possibly damaged so I ordered new ones but am still having no luck with these. I try running example sketches from the SSD 1306 library which worked before. If anyone is able to help I would really appreciate it! This is the code I'm using:

What do you mean by "not working"? Entirely black or white screen, or random dots, or distorted image?

What do you mean by "not working on Pro Micro"? Does the screen work normally on an Uno or Nano?

I have moved your question to the obviously correct forum section: "Displays" instead of "Networking and Protocols".

If the example sketches are not working, then it's not a code problem. There is no point anyone looking at your code until the display works with the example sketches. Then your code should work too, if it was working before.

You said this was an SPI OLED? There are no addresses with SPI, only with I²C.

Sorry I've tried with a couple of codes and that was one of them but I can't get the 128x64 spi code from the ssd1306 examples folder to work. The screen is entirely black. i've tried with a nano, uno, and the pro micro.

Please post a hand drawn diagram showing how you wired the display, with clearly labeled pin numbers and designations on both the Arduino and the display. The photo is not very helpful.

SPI wiring will not work with the example I2C display code.

Here is the wiring and some code I used with SPI OLED and Pro Micro. Sorry that the wiring may not be very clear, ask if you cannot figure it out

avrdude: butterfly_recv(): programmer is not responding

I have the right board and port selected...

That's an upload error, not related to the code I shared. Can you upload the blink example sketch to the Pro Mini?

Which doesn't seem to agree with the latest code you posted.

Make up your mind: are you using an SPI or I2C connection?

spi. What do you mean it doesn’t agree? Are you saying that because of how the pins are defined?

What do you think the code uses: hardware or software SPI?

I’m not really too familiar with the differences. I’ll try hardware spi once I get back home.

I’m using a pro micro not pro mini. Could that be why?

On the Pro Micro and the Pro Mini, the library SPI.h uses the hardware SPI.

Check the pinout diagrams and make sure to connect MOSI, MISO, SCK and CS correctly.

If the display is 3.3V only, you MUST use a 5V to 3.3V bidirectional level converter on the I/O lines.

Ok thank you for that insight. The display should work with 5V per the specification

So I just got back home and my computer was off. I turned it on and your code showed up on the screen. I took it out and put it back in and the screen was black again. Super weird behavior... Is it possible this is a faulty Arduino? I've never seen anything like this before.

Now when I plug it in im getting white dots on the screen. Do you know what this could be?
