stereo sound

Hi,

I have some cheap Dell computer speakers...powered independently from the Arduino. When I plug them into the Arduino using a standard mono jack, obviously, just one of the speakers plays a tone() command.

Is there any way to get the other speaker to do anything without hacking the computer speakers? Is there anyway to get the Arduino to tell the computer speakers to play the next tone() in the other speaker? If I had a stereo jack would that work?

Sorry...this is probably a pretty dumb question...

Thanks for any help!

You can shortcut left and right speaker to get double mono, many electo stores have small plugs for such , or make one yourself with - Audio Jack 3.5mm - PRT-08032 - SparkFun Electronics -

or use a MP3 shield for stereo..

In a mono jack socket only the tip contact is separate from ground. Plug a stereo plug in and one of the channels is grounded.

If you have a stereo socket and wire the left and right in parallel it will do what you want I believe.

thanks for your help...what do you mean by shortcut? do I just connect the right speaker and left speaker pins together and i'll get double mono?

thanks!
