A simple ‘shifting trick’ allows to get around the odd spacing between pins 7 and 8. It consists in using right angle pin headers instead of straight ones and to shift them properly on standard 0.1’’ plated-through hole PCBs. See

Get the free version of Eagle cad, and load the Eagle board files from this site.
Remove all the parts, except for the pins, and make your own 0.1" or whatever via layout.
Order 10 Uno-sized boards from a board house for $4.95 (+freight).
Might be cheaper than the boards you're using now.

I think it would be hard to beat the cost of Arduino proto shields at US$1.22 each, with free shipping.
Note also that the trick may be used on a board of any size.
