This sketch is part of a bigger thing, the rest works fine

Then apply your 5V to the 5V pin of the Nano, not Vin.
Vin supplies a 5V linear regulator that require about 7V input to provide 5v regualted.

Do you have a DMM? Digital MultiMeter?

Hi,

I have a multimeter.

I have connected an LCD and programmed in the same messages as on the serial printer. The programme runs through with messages displayed on the LCD. The serial printer still stalls as before but will restart if I press ENTER. This is beyond me.
