I am looking to use a shift register and was looking for more power than one can get with a 74HC595
seems like many of the roads lead to the TPIC family....

but, it seems that each member of this family lives in different houses...
certainly not interchangeable.

anyone have a suggestion on which is more available, easier or any other help ?

Not sure about your area for availability but I would recommend TPIC6A595 DW package.

Looks like the N package (20 pin) is more readily available.
