But, I'm with you on the quality of the tutorial. There is a colourful but terse coverage of "how" and almost no "why" at all.
WHY ??
Yo should not connect to the board power.
And you have a 12v power source.
Just mak sure you read the instructions on how to set the jumpers on the relay module
But you have a 12 V relay and a 12 V power supply. Everything you need to do the job properly as Dave notes.
Just follow the instructions in #10.
