baig1984:
i have already completed this project following atutorial but i want to replace the lcd with IIC/I2C 2004 5V 20X4 LCD.
Good idea, makes it more convenient. Frees up some pins as well.
and also need assistance that is it possible to install ultrasonic sensor 50 feet away from the arduino as my water tank is on rooftop? :o
Assuming your cable is long enough, I'd suggest asking your neighbour with a long enough ladder for help.
Furthermore, look for things like lightning protection and RF decoupling. Your wire will act as antenna (not sure if it will affect the workings of your sensor - if it's the HC-SR04 it should be fine as its signals are quite simple), and may also catch lightning as it's all outdoors.

I would say NOT to buy the JSN SR04T because many people including me are having problems with it. Especially stability issues. It is not stable.
I've not had any serious problems with stability of the JSN-SR04T-2.0 that I've been experimenting with. I think the problems mentioned in the video are fixed by lengthening the trigger pulse from the bare minimum time to 15us.
At any rate, I am using it with a programming resistor to make it run continuously outputting data via serial and then switching it on and off with a high-side switch.
The main problem I'm having with the JSN-SR04T is that the sensor does not work at all if there is any condensation on the face. This makes it unsuitable to operate inside a dip tube where it is confined in 100% humidity. The Maxbotix ones are said to "lose accuracy" if when condensation is present, but I don't see specifics. At higher cost, there are models with a heater in the sensor to prevent or clear condensation, but that is likely a non-starter for a battery powered setups.
As a work-around, I've made an aluminium cone and mounted around the sensor and eliminated the dip-tube. The cone helps to avoid reading off the tank sides and helps with reading consistency, but the sensor is still open to the air, hopefully limiting the chance of condensation. Fingers crossed.
Edit: The Maxbotix one linked below are great but too expensive.
At $27, these are a little bit pricey, though obviously a third the price of the Maxbotix options. I also wish there were sources other than ebay, but I can't see any. The documentation I can see on the ebay seller's page is pretty weak.
I would be interested if you have experience with the behaviour of these units when there is condensation on either or both of the transducers. I expect it to be a problem, but knowing how bad would be interesting.
