Unable to load sketch on arduino mega 2560 custom board

Hi,

We have an issue with a custom board using the MEGA2560. The design is totally based on the arduino Mega board.

The issue is that we cannot load a simple basic Led sketch on the board using the USB port.

Error output:

avrdude done. Thank you.

We are able to use the AVRISP MKII to load the sketch.

Environment :

We are Working with Arduino IDE 1.8.13

The board is detected and here is the board info
BN: Arduino Mega or Mega 2560
VID: 2341
PID: 0242
SN: 142313132353510171C1

The driver for AVRISP MKII libusbk v3.1.0.0

Arduino Mega correctly detected on port COM1 which is used to load the sketch

Bootlader is loaded using AVRISP MKII ==> done without any error.

log of bootlaoder download using the IDE is below

You might want to post the schematic for your design so we can see if you've accidentally missed something out.

If your design is a clone of the Arduino MEGA2560 board, then I think that the "board is detected" is actually saying that your PC can communicate with the ATMEGA16U2 chip which handles the USB to Serial comms for the MEGA2560.

That would suggest that the ICSP header for the MEGA2560 is wired correctly.

I would check your design for the TXD, RXD and RESET signals between the MEGA2560 and the MEGA16U2. It's likely that the RESET signal isn't getting through.

As an aside, if you are creating a custom board, then I think you need to change the USB VID & PID values. That particular VID is allocated to Arduino. Maybe somebody more knowledgeable can comment on this.
