UNO Q Wi-Fi suddenly DEAD

Hi,
My Arduino UNO Q (Linux/SBC side) suddenly lost Wi‑Fi. The board used to work normally, but now no networks are visible and NetworkManager reports no Wi‑Fi device.

Symptoms

  • nmcli dev wifi list shows nothing.
  • nmtui shows no Wi‑Fi networks.
  • ip link show shows only "lo" and Docker bridges (docker0, br-*), no wlan0 interface at all.
  • I already tried "sudo nmcli radio wifi on" and reconnect via various USB cables & reboot UNO Q, Laptop

Kernel / drivers

lsmod shows Wi‑Fi related modules are loaded:
ath10k_snoc, ath10k_core, mac80211, cfg80211 etc.

But the driver fails during init. From dmesg:

ath10k_snoc c800000.wifi: capability req rejected: 119
ath10k_snoc
c800000.wifi: failed to fetch board data for
bus=snoc,qmi-board-id=0,qmi-chip-id=0,variant=Thundercomm_RB1 from
ath10k/WCN3990/hw1.0/board-2.bin
ath10k_snoc c800000.wifi: failed to fetch board-2.bin or board.bin from ath10k/WCN3990/hw1.0

Important hint (possible override)

Boot log includes:

  • initramfs-ath_bdf_override: Set wifi Board Data File to /root/usr/share/arduino-unoq-radio-firmware/<...OldPCB...>

So it seems there is an initramfs override that selects a specific board data file under:
/root/usr/share/arduino-unoq-radio-firmware/

Connectivity constraints

  • Board Wi‑Fi is down, so it has no internet access.
  • USB ADB works (I can adb shell into the board), but the kernel on this image does not have g_ether (USB Ethernet gadget) module, so I can’t easily bring up a USB network interface for internet.

I can provide full dmesg, the contents of /root/usr/share/arduino-unoq-radio-firmware/, and package versions if needed.

Doesn't a router maintain the internet connection?

Hi @dlwlrma2003. I suggest contacting the customer service for the seller you purchased the board from. If you purchased it from the Arduino Store, you can use this contact form:

Of course I do not intend this to discourage proceeding with troubleshooting efforts here on Arduino Forum.

Interesting.

Looking at the timestamps, it would appear that my UNO Q is using the 'OldPCB' firmware. It being copied at boot time probably explains the odd timestamp as well. I made a backup copy of board-2.bin and deleted the original file from /lib/firmware/ath10k/WCN3990/hw1.0/ and it was indeed replaced by the OldPCB version again after restarting the board.

This does suggest that there was a board revision at some point, although it doesn't explain the failure of the WiFi module on your board or mine. My board is dated 2025/08/14.

Pls contact the Arduino Support team via Contact us with details of the issue and also your purchase (pdf) receipt for the board.
