Upgrade or replace car radio

Hello all,

I am new to this forum, and since I am looking for help with my project this is the best place to start (I hope  )

I plan to buy a radio like this one Land Rover Discovery Radio alpine XQD00033OPUY tape to add a better stock look for my old car.

I would like to connect it with my iphone to play audio through Bluetooth. What is the best way to achieve this? I think the easier way is to hack the radio some way and add BT module? More complicated one is to replace the electronics and build a custom one? What do you think?

I can't imagine what role you think there might be for an Arduino microprocessor?

Someone must tell you, so I will do it. This is not an Arduino project. Arduino can deal with low quality mono audio for short periods of a few seconds. High quality continuous stereo audio? No.

Buy a head unit with Bluetooth audio built in. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your answers. Indeed I did not have a specific idea what and how to build. I think it crystallizes more and more I think about it and now I am pretty sure the best way is to design something like this:

This thing is hacking that particular radio cd changer socket adding Bluetooth, USB and line-in interface. As I assume this is still not a project for Arduino setup? If not, could you give me a hint where to look for a help/tuts/guides with this?

(And of course I can buy this kit or even a radio with BT/USB build-in, even have one istalled now, but the fun way is to try to design this on my own)

One easy solution is to buy a Bluetooth to FM converter.

Or, you can get a Bluetooth Receiver, and if your stereo has an "Aux" or "External Audio" input, plug it in. Otherwise, you can tap-into the stereo's electronics. If you tap-into the electronics, you might have to disconnect the tape-player or CD player, and you might have fake it out and "play" a tape/CD when you want to hear Bluetooth.

If you have to ask how to build something like that, it's probably beyond your ability. (It's beyond my knowledge/ability.) You usually need to know some 'unpublished' things about the car stereo.

RF is "tricky" and it usually requires some expensive-specialized equipment (RF spectrum analyzers, etc.). Where I work, we use these for production test.

Miniaturization is also difficult or impossible, and expensive in small quantities, "at home". (Have you ever looked inside a digital watch or cell phone?)
