Hi! On my VENTUNO Q the USB-A ports usually don't work after boot, and Wi-Fi often doesn't either.
The board is powered through the DC jack from a 65 W power supply
I went through my last 31 boots:
-
kernel 1080: USB-A worked 12 times out of 18
-
kernel 1084: only once out of 11
-
kernel 1089 (pre-release): 0 out of 2
Rebooting or unplugging the power doesn't help: my last 12 boots all failed.
Kernel 1089 didn't fix it either, so I went back to 1084.
Is there a fix or a workaround?
Hey! That’s a frustrating one, especially seeing it get worse with newer kernels. Your data across 31 boots is actually really helpful for diagnosing this — nice thinking to track it that way.
A few things worth trying:
1. Power supply might be the issue:
65W sounds plenty, but peak current during boot (USB enumeration + Wi-Fi radio init + board startup all happening simultaneously) can cause brief voltage drops. Try a higher current rated supply or test with a different PSU if you have one handy.
2. Force USB/Wi-Fi re-init after boot:
As a workaround, try running these after each boot:
bash
sudo modprobe -r usbcore && sudo modprobe usbcore
sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager
Not a fix, but useful to confirm it’s a kernel driver issue rather than hardware.
3. Kernel regression is real here:
Your numbers tell a clear story — 12/18 on 1080, dropping to 1/11 on 1084, and 0/2 on 1089. That’s a kernel regression, not a hardware fault. Go back to kernel 1080 as your stable option for now and report this on Arduino’s GitHub with your boot stats — that data is exactly what devs need to track down the regression.
4. Check boot logs:
bash
dmesg | grep -i "usb\|wifi\|wlan"
Share the output on the thread — it’ll likely reveal exactly where initialization is failing.
Definitely report this as a bug if you haven’t already. Your 31-boot dataset is solid evidence!
Second this. Just got my ventuno q today. I didn't get the arduino charger with barrel jack adapter so SBC Linux mode is my only option to set up. USB mouse & keyboard doesn't work after boot. Now I cannot get past the welcome screen. Is there a solution to this issue?
Did you order it?
The Arduino brand charger is not specifically required, but having a high quality power supply for the VENTUNO Q is essential.
The barrel jack is most convenient way to provide power to the VENTUNO Q, but you can also use the terminal block if you have a suitable supply.
Hi, thx for the reply. I mean I didn't buy the barrel jack power supply. I am using a PD adapter capable of delivering 135w, and it shows Ventuno Q is only using 10-12w with 20V output. So I think it can supply enough power for it. But anyway, is it confirmed to be power related? Any fixes or work around for this?
Not at all. I just focused on that specific part of your post because I wasn't sure if maybe you were saying that you ordered the power supply, but didn't receive it with your VENTUNO Q shipment.
Do you have the keyboard and mouse connected to the USB-A sockets on the VENTUNO Q?
