USB extension

Has anyone tried any USB extension/booster cables?

such as: http://www.usbgear.com/USB-Extenders.html

I'm curious to know if these will cause issues with sending serial data back to the PC.

Shouldn't be a problem, as the Arduino / USB / Serial bridge does not run at the maximum USB speeds.

Someone used such a cable to extend their USB connection to their basement, and ran into issues. I know it was discussed on the forum, but I don't see the topic in a quick search.

Since they are bus-powered, you can run into power issues.

The USB cable length is 5m max. these are effectively a 1 port hub on a permanently connected 5m cable.

I haven't used one with an arduino, but we've used them in several situations here at work, sometimes 2 or maybe even 3 of them, with no problems.
