USB problems in Ubuntu 15.10

Hello,

I managed to get my Arduino UNO R3 working just fine in Ubuntu 15.10 and Arduino IDE 1.6.1.

But suddenly, today, it stopped working. When I plug the board in I get the following in dmesg:

usb 6-1: new full-speed USB device number 32 using uhci_hcd
usb 6-1: New USB device found, idVendor=2341, idProduct=0043
usb 6-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=220
usb 6-1: Manufacturer: Arduino (www.arduino.cc)
usb 6-1: SerialNumber: 7413736373735141A082
cdc_acm 6-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
usb 6-1: USB disconnect, device number 32
usb 6-1: new full-speed USB device number 33 using uhci_hcd
usb 6-1: New USB device found, idVendor=03eb, idProduct=2fef
usb 6-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=0
usb 6-1: USB disconnect, device number 33
usb 6-1: new full-speed USB device number 34 using uhci_hcd
usb 6-1: New USB device found, idVendor=03eb, idProduct=2fef
usb 6-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=0

So, for some reason the USB device is disconnected twice and then stays in a limbo state. I can’t see any /dev/ttyACM* and the IDE can’t select a port.

BUT I am able to briefly, for a second or so, see the port enabled in the IDE.

Did any of you experience this before? How can I fix it? The instructions in the main website didn’t help :(.

Thank you, cheers,

AP

Hello,

I have an extra bit of information that might help to figure out what's going on.

When I go back to Windows, I can program the Arduino again and everything is as expected. Then, when I return to Ubuntu, I can see the port and I can program the board, but only once! After that, the problem happens and I have to return to Windows again. Does this make any sense? I guess the way the Arduino is programmed in Linux messes up with the board somehow.

Cheers,

AP

Same problem here, i already uninstall brltty. And problem still going on.

FT232RL work sometimes and disconnect.

I feel silly.

You won't believe what was causing this all the time...

The Arduino was mounted on a home made robot chassis. And it was fixed to the chassis through the mounting holes. Specifically, the mounting hole next to the ICSP programming pins had a metallic nut and bolt underneath.

The nut was short-circuiting the RESET and GND pins effectively putting the ATmega16U2 in DFU mode!!! As soon as I added a bit of insulation plastic underneath, the problem went away.

Gabriel, might this be the problem that you're also experiencing? If not, maybe you need to re-program your ATmega16U2. Check-out these links:

Hi,

I solved my problem doing this:

1 - i had to deal with the software conflict with brltty (braille device).

sudo apt-get remove brltty

2 - Other problem is that one of my usb cables had some wires broken. I change de usb cable and now it its working 100% of time.
