Hi All,
I got tired of having to open up the Windows Hardware Manager just to get the name of the com port for the dev board I just plugged in my computer.
So I wrote a small quality of life utility to monitor the USB events on windows, and "report" any new device plugged in.
So I decides to make it available to the community.
The utility is completely free to use, published under the MIT Licence for use by anyone.
You can find the source code, as well as the releases on my GitHub in the ComPorts repository.
If you want to see a short demo of how it functions I posted a short video on YouTube .
Hope this can be used, if not, hey it was fun building it...
I am looking into building this for Linux as well.
@admins if this is not the appropriate place to post please remove/ move my post.
Thank you

Perhaps you could add a few words about how to install it please?
You can download if from the releases section.
I'll also look at creating an installer for it. Thanks for the feedback.
Installation
Download the zip-file from releases .
Unzip to a location on your pc/ laptop hard drive.
Run the exe.
The app will also start up when windows starts. This can be disabled by right-click on the tray icon and deselect "Run on Windows Start" menu.

Doesn't a new COM port appear in the IDE menu? Unless you have about 20 Arduino plugged in, it should be pretty easy to spot what new device has appeared.
I generally have about 3-4 ESPs that I tend to work on from time to time.
