I would rather log data to a thumb drive instead of sd card. The sd card is so small and I am clumsy. A thumbdrive is easier to handle.
Has anyone does this or tried to - log data to usb thumb drive?

A thumb drive is a USB slave. An Arduino is a USB slave. Two slaves do nothing but sit around and drink all your beer, unless there is a USB Master/Host involved.
You can log data to a thumb drive if you add a USB Host shield to the Arduino AND write the necessary USB driver.
