Using hc-sr04 as ultrasonic detector

Is that possible to use this sensor to listen to any ultrasonic waves around!?
I am trying to make leak detector, but didn't find anything on the web about that!
It's all about bat detector, and they use other sensors.

If that possible, can someone give me code example, or anything about it.

The HC-SR04 is a "distance sensor" that measures the distance by:

  • sending out a couple of ultrasonic pulses when triggered
  • signals an echo after receiving the same ultrasonic pulses in reasonable time after triggering

So the answer is "no", the sensor cannot listen to "any ultrasonic waves around". This sensor only listens for an echo of exactly the same pulsed signal that it sends out when triggered.

I think removing the sensor from the board and using it alone will be the right thing.
