variations in RGD leds

I bought 25 RGB LEDs on eBay.

I have them in a 5 x 5 matrix controlled by ten (10) 74HC595.

I am using the ShiftPWM library.

If I set the colors to red, green, or blue, the colors are great.

However, if I try to set the LEDs to other colors, there is a variation in the colors produced obvious enough to the naked eye.

For example, if I set all the LEDs to white, some LEDs will have more greenish tint, others will have a more blueish tint, and others will be "white".

Is this the best I can expect given the quality of products I can find on eBay?

Is it perhaps that I have counterfeit 74HC595s ?

I have found that especially the blue part of the RGB LED is very sensitive to ESD.
You might have damaged some during wiring/soldering.

If I set them all to blue, they seem fine, but there is a difference between the LEDs if you look closely enough.

I am a bit disappointed.

I still have 25 more of them, and now I am not sure whether I should bother building a display with them. It is a lot of work wiring them up.

I have found the red component of these is very weak and several red LEDs burned out when current was first applied. You are best testing them all before using them.

I think that these very cheap LEDs come from the reject bin in the factory.

I have the LEDs in sockets, so I can replace a burned out LED.

Disappointed with the quality.
