Video guides?

Hey guys, something I've been thinking about for a while is making fairly short video guides for simple electronic bits and bobs, specifically things that would be useful for Arduino users.

I've managed to make a video thats somewhat watchable, good enough to see if it's useful to anyone at least.

If something like this is useful, I'll rig up a nicer camera, one than will focus properly ;), and make one about something such as connecting character LCDs and using the lcd library, or perhaps start at the beginning and do a run through on setting up a fresh Arduino and uploading code.

So, what do you think? Should I continue with this, or is it a non starter? opinions please [smiley=kiss.gif]

It is good. I would be happy to see more of these, but one small nitpick. I find the music a distraction, not just on this video, but on a lot of things I watch on youtube. Well done though.

kinda dull but your British  I did like it and think it can be helpful

my only nitpick would be to show a close up (macro shot) of the pins on the led, cause if you never have seen one, well you still havent lol

great work

I'll bear that in mind, thanks

Oops, this is a good point ;D

Oi. :stuck_out_tongue:

But, I know what you mean... I think if I plan what I'm going to be doing and say, theres a good chance of more snappiness

I would not worry a super bunch about it, your making an instructional video, not trying to entertain someone

but its just so darn rare that I get to slide in a joke on the UK (without being flat out rude, which I wouldn't like) I had to take it ;D

As a first vid I think it is ok, the music isn't too bad as it has no words but maybe it wants to be slightly quieter still.

I think you need to do a bit of video editing to speed up steps. I would recommend videoing first and then commentating. I am glad you stopped umming later on but as a first vid this can be forgiven at the start. I think this would also be better if commentating was added at the end.

I would recommend something like a list of tools and parts at the start so people know what they need. I like it where you just 'get another tool'!

Overall I think that you have a good grasp of what kind of things you need to do to improve and I'm sure that watching your video a few times tells you a lot about what to improve next time.

Anyway yeah keep it up, I think you could do some great ones in the future

I'll smite thee :sunglasses:

Very good video!

Okey dokey,

I now have a new channel that can be found here: ArduinoGuides - YouTube

Right now there is only installation guides, but the plan is to go through the basics of an Arduino sketch using the blink example then on to LEDs, all simple stuff. After that I plan on building a Velleman electronic dice kit, showing soldering technique, finally emulating it's function on an Arduino.

So that will be going from nothing, to making an electronic dice, later I'll look at adding libraries and moving the dice program to a LCD.

It may take me a while to make the videos, I'm still working on a good workflow, but it's getting there.

Any thoughts?

Oh, and please subscribe ;D

much better!

and I would but I dont have a utube account :-[

I like your projects on your website too

beige,

Your first two video guides are well done and kudos to you for doing them in a bilingual format (Mac and Windows).

Keep up the good work.

Excellent guides. I'd like to see some more!
