Want to scare cats away using ultrasonic sounds

Hi!

I'm looking to scare cats away before they can poop in my garden. Ideally, I'd want to emit ultrasonic sounds (that won't annoy humans).
Can I do this using the tone() function? If so, what speaker can i use? I think I need to emit frequencies of about 40 kHz.

Thanks in advance!

Try HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor.

It does not work, I don't care what you see on the internet, it does not work.

nobody cares about people just get a megaphone and scream at the cats

Get your own cat, cats are territorial, especially male cats. If you have a cat it will keep other cats away.

  • Get an angry dog barking sound file.

  • Ultrasonic detector triggers this file to be played several times.

"Scare" - hahhaha.

Plant aromatic herbs like rosemary, mint and lavender, which are easy to grow and smell great.

Or wdt

I feel like the cost is more than the gain in that scenario (neuter/spay, vet visits, flea repellant, food, etc.) Also this has become more of a silly thread discussing the best ways to scare cats.

that's relative. I couldn't grow tomatoes if my life depended on it

Same here (with the help of tomato worms), but I couldn't stop rosemary from a floral coup d'etat in a short stay.

cat scaring thread turned into fun thread turned into gardening thread

My comment is for the OP to test it! Why ask before testing? Ask how to trigger it or ask how to produce a longer sequence of pulses. or ask how to know if it is producing any sound.

Grab a card.

the state of New Mexico has a law limiting the volume level of ultrasonic rodent repellers. I can't imagine the argument used to convince people to pass this law. I'm thinking none of the people who voted for it live in a hundred year old farm house

stop being practical and start talking about something irrelevant. Cats don't even scare by ultrasound anyways. (Especially while pooping)

Sounds like the voice of experience :grinning:

mustard water, cayenne (used to be cheaper)

an old staple

Agreed. Anything comes within range, it activates a couple of servos attached to shaker cans. Or, y'know...lasers. But not laser tripwires... these lasers

(note: Just a joke - I like cats a lot and do not condone, encourage or endorse mistreatment of animals in any way)
