what is best sound board

hi , i have a pinball project underway & i want to add sounds to the machine. just wondering what others are using for sound boards in arduino , or is the nano a good solution...thanks - bill

there is nothing simpler, less expensive or easier than a Catalex YX-5300. 256 folders, 256 files per folder on a TF card ( the true and proper name of a micro SD card )

sounds good , i will check it out , err ,do u know has arduino got a small amp approx 30 - 50 watt power for the same project ...thanks

The Arduino doesn't have an amplifier (or a DAC). If you're in the U.S., Parts Express has a good selection of small amplifiers & amplifier boards.

30-50W is probably "too much" for a pinball machine. And, a bigger speaker will make "bigger sound" than a big amplifier alone. Maybe one or two 8-inch speakers if you want it to sound "big & powerful".

Of course the power supply must supply the 30-50W with enough voltage and enough current. Power is calculated as Voltage x Current, or it can be calculated as V2/R.

So, you need 14V RMS to get 50W into 4-Ohm speaker. And, 14V RMS is 39V peak-to-peak. That means you need a 40V power supply, plus a little extra for the "loss" across the amplifier (that's assuming you're using a "regular" Class A/B amplifier*).

(High-power car amplifiers have built-in DC-DC converters to step-up the voltage.)

 • With a bridge amplifier you get double the voltage across the speaker for 4 times the power.

i have 24 v to power the amp , so will looking at something around this voltage ,thanksfor your help.

I use LePai power amps. sound quality on a par with the source, a good match for Minimus 7 speakers

thanks for your help gents ,
