I have here a Stepper Motor Nema 17 KS42STH48-1684A, is it okay if I use an L298N motor driver for that, or should I should other motor drivers? What would be the best motor driver for my stepper motor? I am using the stepper motor for my conveyor belt.

I am using a 12V, 2A power supply. I have tried using my stepper motor with the L298N motor driver, and after 100+ rotations, the motor driver and stepper motor became hot. Is that normal?

Data sheet for that motor The Pololu DRV8825 driver will work. Follow their instructions to set the current limit to 1.5A or less. For the full 1.7 A/winding allowed, use this driver instead. You will need a power supply capable of higher current (3A minimum).

L298 is probably the worst thing to use to drive a modern bipolar stepper.

Measure the TORQUE required to begin to move the conveyor belt. That is the minimum torque required for your project. Get a stepper motor that will produce more than that torque.
