Hi Everybody,
I have some LM358 OpAmps for general-purpose use.
Examples:
wired as voltage-follower to sniff signal-levels.
Used as a schmitt-trigger with adjustable hysteresis
Though a LM358 is not rail-to-rail and rather slow.
So what type of OPAmp would you recommend for this use?
Can be in the 1 to 5 Euro range per piece
best regards Stefan
If it's just an LED (in re. topic title), does rail-to-rail or speed matter?
LTC6221 LT6221
not really.
In case I would like to sniff analog signals it does matter.
I looked up the LT6221 at mouser they only have S8-packages.
I should have mentioned this in the first post:
I would prefer 1/10-inch DIP-package
best regards Stefan

You may run into 2023 on that one, too.

I think those aren't 100% +rail.

LMC6482AIM about $0.50 each.
I have used TLV2462, it's very op-ampy.
MCP6041 comes in DIP, and is rail-to-rail, in and out. Or the dual MCP6042 gives you two opamps in the same package.
As you say the LM358 is not rail-rail although it IS (can be) linear down to zero.
Plenty to choose from here and I've tested them all. Widely available and inexpensive
5: Choosing the right Op Amp for your application
For simple applications you may wish to skip to the bottom of this section where you will find recommendations that will suit most purposes.
Modern op amps can be a very good approximation to an "ideal" op amp provided you choose the right one for your application. Real world operational amplifiers do however have limitations; for example
the output voltage cannot exceed the supply voltages; and
the output stage imposes a limit on the current…
