Very nice project !!!
It was a very intelligent idea acting on the brakes instead of the throttle, congrats on this part.
Maybe you can tune the program to give it more or less 'importance' on the control. something like from 0 to 100. So you can finally learn to do them without any aid. and in the process you just decrease this number so that the arduino takes less control each time.
