Which ethernet shield to use?

Hi,

How big is the difference between official Arduino Ethernet shield with Wiznet W5100 and clone (?) with ENC28J60 chip?

I know the official one has SD card slot, but for my project it's not needed - I just need Arduino time to time to fetch some small amount of data from remote site...

The official one is double the price - so I was wondering - is the ENC28J60 only just cheaper or also worse as some sites say. Would it be still OK for my needs or should I buy better the official one?

Theres a reason one is half the price of the other, if you're desperately poor, get the ENC28J60, if not, get the W5100. The ENC28J60 needs to be programmed to do everything, it will use far more resources on the arduino than the Wiznet.

desperately poor is hard said... especially when it comes to price difference of just some euros... :-?
