Works without problems wit FTDI 2.12.28
At least from the product photo:
This is wrong. The board has a WCH CH340 USB to serial adapter chip, not an FTDI. If so, FTDI drivers are worthless for this board.
You can check the writing on the largest black chip on the bottom of the board. If it says "WCH CH340G" then you would need the driver for your OS from the WCH website:
Usually we only see Windows users needing this driver. My understanding was that it's pre-installed on Linux or macOS (I can't tell which OS you're using). So I have no clue whether the driver will help you. I also know that macOS seems to regularly break compatibility with the drivers provided by the manufacturer on that site and it takes WCH a long time to fix the incompatibility.
If the chip says "FT232RL" then that comment is correct and you need the FTDI drivers, but again I would expect this to be pre-installed.
l3spaul:
you must select the old bootloader to upload you code
The "Old Bootloader" thing is completely unrelated to any driver/port/etc. issues. That can cause an error when uploading, but it will be a completely different error from the one you're getting.
If you end up getting past the current issue and to the failure caused by having the wrong bootloader configuration, we'll be able to help you fix that easily, but it's not worth thinking about now.
