Whiplash from a topic search !

i don't know how focussed you guys can stay when searching a topic and whether you frequently go off on tangential threads but i thought i was following a valid route when i heard my "logic spine" snap...

i was looking up self-balancing robots and following the "inverted pendulum" track when this "related" video got served up to me by YouTube in the recommended list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTPk9iEw0-s

i thought "How to use a pendulum" seemed 'basic' enough - although in hindsight "Truth Testing" should've probably indicated something olfactorily aquatic....

anyway, it just amused me how drastically ("360 deg" turn ;) :P ) my search turned from Science to 'Signs' !! and then it was somewhat depressing to know that such "knowledge" still exists and is being propagated out there...

SPOILER ALERT !! :P the kicker was how nonchalantly she glazed over the "third option". i didn't bother to continue after 3 minutes, although it's temptingly curious because there's still a Pt.2 after 10 minutes of Pt.1 !! (if anybody is brave enough to venture to the end of that video - do post here what the rest of us is missing !)

and for my part; apologies for wasting your time !!

just buy a magic 8 ball dude...

the trouble with a magic 8 ball is that it’s not really fine-tuned to one’s specific frequency, thereby rendering the result inaccurate.
and this is not even taking into consideration geo-magnetic forces; what may work in the Western world (or Northern hemisphere) might not apply elsewhere - unless the manufacturers of such magic 8 balls have calibrated different versions for their various global markets.

my great grand father used to "dowse" for water with a pendulum, he was scary accurate!

I saw him dowse with coat hangers as well.

Before you all cry "rubbish", the proof was in the well!

cyberteque: my great grand father used to "dowse" for water with a pendulum, he was scary accurate!

over how wide a geographical area ? for example, could he do the same far away from home ?

cyberteque: Before you all cry "rubbish", the proof was in the well!

i like to keep an open mind, and i won't call 'dowsing' or 'chakra-sensing (whatever)' rubbish as some people "may" have highly sensitive 'magnetic field sensors' - but HER video was quite laughable (if it wasn't depressingly sad).

COME ON - "Truth" Testing with a "third option" ?? Truth either IS or NOT - there's no MAYBE.

That’s a video of 10 lbs of fertilizer in a 5 lb bag.

The James Randi Foundation has a $1,000,000 prize to anyone who can prove woowoo under controlled conditions. You don’t have to get it perfect, just beat the odds by a significant margin. That prize has been available for a long time and lesser prizes came before but so far the woowoo always fails under scrutiny.
Randi was a stage magician, he’s a LOT harder to fool than a scientist.

i'm sure she weighs more than that.... :-X

Grampa used to get asked to go all over the Mount Lofty Ranges.

He was always right on the money.

I was always sceptical, even after I dug a shallow well (3 metres) in a spot he had said was good.
