Why does my computer not detect my Arduino Uno R3 even though the on light is on
i am also using a breadboard for the servo im not sure if that can be a cause of this
It could.
Does the problem still occur if you disconnect all wiring/shields/modules/etc. from the Uno and connect the Uno by itself to your computer with the USB cable?
What OS are you using?
If Windows:
- does your UNO appear in Device Manager?
- does your PC play a sound when you plug the USB cable in?
Have you tried different USB cables - some are power only charging cables?
Has your board ever been detected?
Also try and remove/disconnect all additional components/devices from your UNO and try again.
no it doesnt work when i do that
my uno doesnt appear in the device manager no my pc doesnt play a sound when i plug it in i don't have any other usb cables that are like the arduino one and my board has been detected before but it stopped working today but was working yesterday
i am currently downloading the software on another pc i will check back if it has worked again
and when i press the reset button and move the head of the servo it move back to a certain position
also when i go to Tools the ports selection is greyed out
this is what is says:( avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\.\COM3": The system cannot find the file specified.)
This is the expected error when you don't have a port selected. You must find out why there is no port for the Uno in the Tools > Ports menu of the Arduino IDE.
it now says the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows now cannot recognise it
Restart your computer.
Also, how did you power the Servo? I really hope it was not from the Arduino, while plugged into the USB port! While this MAY work, you do run the risk of damaging the computer and/or the Arduino.
as i said there is a breadboard so i power one side with a seperate power supply
OK - but better to say at the start. Have you tried restarting the computer?
Yes i have restarted the computer.
