Windows explorer crash after arduino ide 2.04 install

Hello,
I have the same issue on 2 computers.

After install of IDE 2.04 i can't anymore acceed to my local disk C: in the Windows explorer, it crashes when i try to open any folder.
I tried to restore the system but it doesn't repair.
Today I used my other Full Admin acount to try a new install on another local disk (i.e. E:) but now I have the same issue on E: disk !!

Unistalling doesn't solve the problem that is now persistent.

I think there is something new in this release that windows doesn't like... ?
Please help me.

Details :
PC 1
Windows 10 Pro, DELL XPS 8930 16 Go RAM, lot of free space on disks
PC2
Windows 8.1 Pro, DELL Precision M6800 16 Go RAM, lot of free space on disks.

Many thanks

Hi @ScaraBE24. I'm sorry about the problem with your computer.

How exactly did you install it. There are several ways:

  • The auto-update dialog shown in Arduino IDE when a new version is available:
    image
  • The "Windows Win 10 and newer, 64 bits" download from the "Software" page
  • The "Windows MSI installer" download from the "Software" page
  • The "Windows ZIP file" download from the "Software" page

Which one did you use?

Is there any error or warning messages when you do that? If so, please post the full and exact text of the message.

Hello ptillisch,
Thank you to reply.

The first time it happened was by the auto-update dialog : the update was about half finished then it disappeared suddenly.
Then I had this issue with C:.

I tried then all the three ways of install, even the Zip method but it doesn't help to understand this issue.
I tried to uninstall, no success.
I tried to install from the Admin account with option "for everybody" to choose another local disk, it worked but it added the same issue on this other local disk !

I had no error message, no dialog box appeared, no sound of any alert...

So now my windows explorer crashes when i try to access to my C: and E: local disks.
I found no way to restore these accesses.

I think the installer makes something in the registry or adds a hidden component somewhere that prevents my explorer to work.
