Hi All.
I have a led strip wich has a few leds in the middle that dont work. After that they work fine. So i thing the data line is ok....5v and gound are connected just in the middle of the not working part.....whats going on? Attache pic
Obviously, you made an error in programming your 4,500 WS2812B... somewhere 1,000.
Or/and
You followed AI and made a cut in the middle so you could power it from both ends.
Perhaps I am misunderstanding, you said
but your picture shows only a few in the middle that DO work.
Sorry.
More info. I think its not totally a progrming bug.
Im refering only to the strip that is lit. Its 5v and Ground are conected right in the middle of the not working leds.
Recent results.
i turned all off and back on. They worked this time. But then, with a totally different sketch they didnt work again.
So my guess is the data line at the first not working led has an issue. The thing i dont get is how the data line like 10 leds ahead works just fine again...???? Same behaviour in both fails. And both where resolved by turning power off.
I dont know if i should cut and replace the not working segment.... maybe there is some ghost code somewhere in the chain?
Didnt mentioned im sending data from Max/msp in Ableton Live via Serial.
I dont know if it is possible to have a permanent hidden bug that could remain after reload...I had issues in the past with MaxMsp that only when away with deleting the object with problemas
Thank you
Post and label working code and non-working code. Also, a picture where you cut (and I assume, repaired) the matrix.
Did you make the matrix? Did you insert the non-lit section in the wrong direction?
Hi,
Have you got the 330R series resistor fitted in the data line?

Doesn't explain to me what you are doing.
That is possible.
Well that really doesn't make sense at all. Either the signal is broken or not, so back to the software side.
Just post a minimal sketch which shows the issue, not a complex receive and transmit thing, just a simple moving rainbow or something.
That could just be coincidence.
In any case like this the problem is found by method of elimination.
Test the strip with known working and simple software first. If the issue persists, it is an issue in the strip and it is broken or poorly soldered or maybe you need to add a capacitor or a different PSU. Test the individual strips with the same signal output, again to confirm it is either that strip or all strips have the same.
If all strips have the same thing there could be some other hardware issue, since for now the software is excluded as a cause.
If it works fine with the known working software then the complex software is at fault, there could still be a hardware cause between Ableton and the Arduino, but that is another thing again, and we will need to look at your
code.
if not then we can look at the software you are u
That would certainly indicate a software problem.
I referenced OP's previous topic of following AI "advice" to cut the 4500-pixel strand/matrix and power from two directions with dissimilar power supplies.
What kind of comment is that man? You must be low to flex knoledge with a guy making a led toy for music.
Thanks all for your answers. After several tests its defenitly a code bug. Didnt find it but went away
Instructive.
Because...
You did not divulge that you had been tinkering, and only stated "I have LED strips and a few do not work," expecting others to clean up your mess up(s).
And now, it is somehow my fault, due to my reply, and none of your doing.
Brilliant.
More than you could ever dream.
@Moris526
Project for you...
Thank you
