i have bought 2 xbee pro 2 chips from sparkfun. i have also bought the xbee shields for duemilanove. i want to establish simple wireless communication between the xbee chips. i have tried X-CTU but it cannot identify the firmware version or specs of the chips. i have also trie the straighter approach of Serial.print commands from Arduino IDE but no luck at all...

Why not? What goes wrong?
Are you trying to get bi-directional communication between the 2 XBees? If so, I think that you bought the wrong kind. For this, you need the Series 1 models.

You need to get the XBees configured and talking to each other, first.
