0805 bridging tx led and the neighboring 1k resistor

Is this a mistake?

It surely doesn't belong there. Looks like a small ceramic capacitor, which is much better than a short or a smallish resistor. I guess it shouldn't affect normal operations.

Personally I'd remove it though, because it messes up the overall looks (and take photos before that). And if the board stopped working afterwards, I'd have a word with the seller. Boards that need to be hacked to work shouldn't leave the fab.

Thanks for the confirmation. It wouldn't cause as much confusion should there be some proper silkscreen.

I wonder if there's a board somewhere which is missing a capacitor...

If you're not up to desoldering the capacitor yourself then you should be good to just take it back/send it back and get another one.
