Yes it will work with an A4988.
However note that it is a max 1.7A
Something a little beefier that you can run from the 24 volt system would be preferable.
Also given that you are not running full rotations consider adding something for an encoder on the top of it. That will certainly aid with tracking and enable you to lock in the maximum rotation you need. Encoder can be as simple as a slotted disk which counts how many steps it has taken to make sure you don't overrun or something a little more refined such as this or similar
