Just a quick question, I have a sim900 module, and I'm wondering if anyone has any SIM card recommendations. I'm in the northeastern part of the U.S, and I'm wondering if anyone knows any carriers that would support cards for the sim900 (which I think is 2 or 3g).
As early as January 1, 2022, though plans and timing to phase out 3G services will vary by company and may change. Consult your mobile provider's website for the most up-to-date information.
AT&T announced that it will finish shutting down its 3G network by February 2022.
Verizon announced that will finish shutting down its 3G network by December 31, 2022.
T-Mobile announced that it will finish shutting down Sprint's 3G CDMA network by March 31, 2022 and Sprint's 4G LTE network by June 30, 2022. It also announced it will shut down T-Mobile's 3G UMTS network by July 1, 2022, but has not yet announced a shutdown date for its 2G network.
Hey I'm in a very similar bind. I'm also in the US with an uno/sim900 project that up until a year ago was working with a 7 year old T mobile sim card that got deactivated due to lapse in payments.
I have gotten a current tmobile sim card but I get +CME ERROR: SIM not inserted to my AT+CPIN? commands.
I don't know if there is an incompatibility or some other sort of problem. It really puzzles me why people say its obsolete when it still seems to be by far the most commonly available module on the market. Can you please let me know what is your current status on the issue? Thanks!
If there is anyone else out there who has some input about either troubleshooting, good sim cards, or as close as possible drop in replacements to sim900 I'd love to hear it too!
